Abstract |
We propose to obtain moderate resolution blue spectra of > 100 stars toward the Cygnus Loop in order to identify suitable targets for follow-up high resolution spectroscopy. The proposed observations will allow accurate determinations of stellar parameters, which, when combined with new stellar evolution models, will give accurate distances to the target stars. Future absorption-line spectroscopy with Hectochelle will yield a highly precise distance to the Cygnus Loop, and enable us to explore fundamental principles of shock physics in new detail. |
